That’s the message from BID Steering Group Chairmen Des Simmons and Tony Brown.

Businesses in Bournemouth will start voting next week on whether to create two new business improvement districts in the town. Whilst legally they will be independent, stand alone organisations, the two Steering Groups have always been very clear that there are tremendous benefits for the local economy for both BIDs to go ahead together. A vibrant town centre is a real attraction for staying visitors while a coastal strip with lots to see and do is an encouragement for day visitors to the town to come back again for a short break.

Des Simmons, Chairman of the Coastal Districts BID explained, “The two BIDs will see an additional investment of £7 million in Bournemouth over the next five years. We believe there are considerable economies of scale in terms of staffing, offices and overheads from both BIDs working together. This will ensure that the maximum proportion of our income is devoted to delivering the agreed projects. Each BID will be a separate not-for-profit limited company efficiently and effectively run by successful local entrepreneurs.”

Tony Brown, Chairman of the Town Centre BID Steering Group added, “Working together, the two BIDs will ensure that their marketing activities are seen to be complementary. We will develop a coherent, effective message which sells Bournemouth in the right way to our respective markets. Businesses will only pay into one BID. By working closely together we can increase the impact of our marketing and further raise the profile of the town. In effect businesses will buy into one BID and benefit from the activities of the other for free.”
