Solution secured for night-time traffic restrictions

After direct lobbying and representations to senior BCP officers and politicians by the Town Centre BID and individual levy payers, a mutually acceptable solution has been secured regarding proposed night-time traffic restriction in Old Christchurch Road/Horseshoe Common.

Originally, traffic restrictions were to be put in place from 10pm to 5am, causing significant issues for those levy payers operating a delivery system – significantly more important since the pandemic and the rise of online delivery services for food etc.

COO Paul Kinvig raised the significant problems this would cause directly with senior BCP highways officials, highlighting how business models had changed over the past couple of years and how such an early closure would seriously impact the businesses in that area. Additionally individual businesses including El Murrino raised the issue with Cllr Vikki Slade as she visited the area one evening to assess parking enforcement.

As a result, the restriction will now start at 11pm and run through to 5am – a change welcomed by restaurants, takeaways and positively received at a recent taxi and police liaison meeting – commencing Monday Apr 22nd.

Paul Kinvig commented “It’s welcome to see that common sense has prevailed on this and a solution found that balances off the need to improve safety in that area with supporting the hard working businesses in the town”

The implementation will be reviewed after 6 months with feedback sought.
