More than 10,000 people have enjoyed the first three Summer Streets events – with just two more opportunities left to join in the free family fun.
Taking place every Saturday afternoon from May half term to June 21st, the five Summer Streets events are bringing a buzz to different parts of Bournemouth Town Centre.
Funded and organised by the Bournemouth Town Centre BID, in partnership with BCP Council and the Town Centre Improvement Fund, these weekly treats – comprising family fun, workshops, live entertainment, expert advice and giveaways – have already proved a huge hit, with two more still to come.
The colourful and varied events have drawn thousands of visitors, with international fashion industry figures and up-and-coming designers taking over Beale Place and Bournemouth Arcade for the Street Fashion event, while Street Dance brought workshops, live performances and more to The Triangle.
Last Saturday’s (June 7th) Street Art event on Westover Road and in the Arcade was perhaps the most popular so far, said Ali Carmichael, Director of Bournemouth Town Centre BID.
“The atmosphere was fantastic – people really loved the arts and crafts workshops, seeing the artists at work, sitting for free portraits, taking part in the shop window competition – and of course the fantastic free goodie bags! So many people have told us how positive these events are for the town.
“Businesses were buzzing – one store in The Arcade reported footfall up 15% that day, with visitors lingering longer, spending more, and discovering shops they’d never visited before.”

For those who have missed out so far, there is still time to join in. The Street Music event takes place at the Bandstand, Lower Gardens, from 12pm until 4.30pm this Saturday (June 14), before the final event, Street Sports, goes ahead at Horseshoe Common on Saturday, June 21st, from 12pm until 3pm.
Suzy Wheeler, Operations Manager at Strawberry Fields RePresents and Absolute Music, who curated the events for the BID, said:
“This Saturday we’re throwing a party in the park with amazing live music all afternoon – including the incredible All About ABBA and The Blueprint Blues Brothers Show. We hope as many people as possible come along – bring a blanket, kick back and enjoy!”
“Then sports lovers won’t want to miss our final Summer Streets event. Local clubs, leisure centres and studios will be doing demonstrations and inviting people to get involved. Look out for everything from basketball to yoga – including a football shootout – as well as amazing eco arts and crafts and brilliant goodie bags for the first 100 visitors.”
“These events are a wonderful way to showcase and celebrate all the talent and energy we have in this area, while bringing free fun for visitors and residents alike. People have loved it so far – and we hope they love the final two events just as much.”
