Important message about billing

by | Jun 25, 2024 | News

Our levy paying businesses will almost certainly be aware that BCP Council is responsible for collecting Bournemouth Town Centre BID levy which they then pass onto the BID. This is a statutory, legal arrangement and the council charges the BID for this service.

The Town Centre BID recently learned that BCP Council has decided to move to a single database for its Revenues and Benefits systems.

Currently the service runs on two different systems across three databases from the legacy councils, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

The council advised that a single database and supplier will provide a consistency of service across BCP and efficiencies. The new system is expected to go live in November.

However, this means a change in the levy collection timetable, because the old systems under which this was administered are being decommissioned.

The billing period, which up to now has been July to June, will move to April to March in future.

So the levy bills being issued in July cover only 9 months instead of the usual 12 months, from 1 July 2024 to 31 March 2025.

The next bill period will then run a full 12 months from 1 April 2025 to end of 31 March 2026, and billing will continue on 1 April on an annual basis thereafter.

As a result, the rateable value of every property will be fixed on 1 April each year rather than 1 June.

It’s important to note that while the payment schedule will change, levy charges will remain based upon the rateable value applicable at the time.

The Town Centre BID want to make it clear that these changes have been introduced by BCP Council and that this is something that is out of their control.

If businesses have any questions or queries about the changes, they need to contact BCP Council directly on businessrates.bournemouth@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.
