It’s getting to that time of year again, and we want you, our levy payers, to be the first to know our plans for Christmas in the town centre, including a free parking offer, late night shopping dates, and a selection of attractions designed to bring people into the town centre and to your business.
CHRISTMAS LATE NIGHT SHOPPING
Late night shopping every Thursday 26th NOV – 17th DEC
Late night shopping is planned for the following dates:
- Thurs 26 Nov
- Thurs 3 Dec
- Thurs 10 Dec
- Thurs 17 Dec
This will be promoted as part of the Christmas marketing campaign, with over 100,000 leaflets going out to local residents and businesses, and the message being reinforced online, via social media and outdoor advertising.

In Town Centre Car Parks
We have been in negotiations with Bournemouth Council, and are pleased to announce that free parking will once more be available in selected Bournemouth Council car parks in the lead-up to Christmas.
This will be on the following dates:
- Thurs 26 Nov (from 4pm) Sun 29 Nov (all day)
- Thurs 3 Dec (from 4pm) Sun 6 Dec (all day)
- Thurs 10 Dec (from 4pm) Sun 13 Dec (all day)
- Thurs 17 Dec (from 4pm) Sun 20 Dec (all day)
This will be promoted alongside the Late Night Shopping offer.
New this year – SANTA EXPRESS
19TH NOV – 30TH DEC
Lower Gardens and various locations
We have been thinking long and hard this year about how to address the issue of shoppers sticking to one area, and not fully exploring the town centre. This Christmas, we have taken over Bournemouth’s iconic land train to run a special Santa Express route to help visitors and shoppers make the most of their day out, and move around more effectively. This hop-on hop-off service will travel to Westover Road, Horseshoe Common, Old Christchurch Road, Richmond Hill, the Square, the Triangle, and the Lower Gardens, and will feature voice over from the driver, recommending places to go along the way.
New this year – GIANT SNOW GLOBE
23rd NOV – 6th DEC
To further encourage visitors and shoppers into different areas, we will be hosting a giant snow globe in the town centre for two weeks from 23 November. The snow globe will be popping up in Lansdowne, Old Christchurch Road, Horseshoe Common and the Triangle. People can step inside and get a special Christmassy photo taken for free. This project is already getting people excited, and will be heavily promoted via social media.

The award winning Gardens of Light will be back with a glowing trail of hanging lights and projections through the Lower Gardens, along with a selection of the most popular Light Pods and – new this winter – a jaw dropping new light installation.
As ever, the Gardens of Light aims to provide an experiential element to Christmas shopping in the Town Centre, giving shoppers an extra reason to visit, and encouraging them to ‘make a day of it’.

ICE SKATE

Lower Gardens
There will be a beautiful new ice rink in the Lower Gardens this year, featuring rink side après-skate chalets with food by South Coast Roast and a bar serving warming mulled wine, mulled cider, champagne and craft beers. It will be open daily from 10am to 11pm.
ALPINE MARKET & MOOSE BAR
Alpine Market 12th Nov – 30th Dec
Moose Bar 12th Nov – 3rd Jan
The traditional Alpine Market & popular Moose Bar will be back this year from 12 November onwards, courtesy of S&D Leisure, serving weary shoppers with Glühwein to keep them going!
CHRISTMAS STAGE IN THE SQUARE

Bournemouth’s Christmas Stage returns to The Square for another year and features a variety of acts providing a packed programme of live entertainment throughout the festive period.
