The Bournemouth Town Centre BID has hosted a free advice seminar, aimed at helping Town Centre BID Levy payers to prepare well in advance of upcoming EU GDPR Legislation. Coming into force on the 25th May 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation will dramatically change the way businesses communicate and how they handle people’s data. Clearing up uncertainty and giving businesses a greater insight into what they can do now to prepare, the Bournemouth Town Centre BID has hosted a dedicated GDPR advice seminar.
Held on the top floor of the Cosy Club, local businesses gathered to hear expert advice from Luke English, a Senior Solicitor at Laceys Solicitors in Bournemouth. A specialist in the commercial, media and technology fields, Luke highlighted useful steps that businesses can take now to ensure their GDPR compliance. This was followed by a Question & Answer session, in which Luke addressed individual business concerns.
Luke English commented: “It was great to speak to local businesses to discuss the general principles of the upcoming GDPR legislation. With just a few months to go until its implementation, everyone needs to act now to ensure they are aware of their new legal obligations and the effect it will have on their organisation.’’
The seminar was free to attend for Town Centre BID levy payers. It was opened by Paul Kinvig, the newly appointed Chief Operating Officer of the BID.
Paul said: “I’ve seen first-hand that many people are still unaware of GDPR, its basic principles and what they need to do to avoid any potential fines for noncompliance. Responding to concerns expressed by town centre businesses, we were pleased to organise an insightful seminar to help local businesses get to grips with GDPR well ahead of schedule.’’
This was the first in a series of business seminars for Town Centre BID levy payers, which will be held once a month. Upcoming events include ‘Customers – Love ‘Em or Lose Them’, a masterclass to help businesses deliver a great customer experience, and ‘Motivating Yourself and Your Team’, where businesses can learn how to use Motivational Maps to navigate change and get the best out of their team.
